Fellowship Update, July, 2023.

The BHNS have awarded two Trainee Travel fellowships for 2023. The first to John Frewen to attend and present at the World Congress of Dermatology in Singapore in July (International fellowship - £750). The second has been awarded to Buket Beresford-Wylie to support attendance at the EHRS event in Sheffield in June (European - £500).

Only members of the BHNS can apply for travel fellowships. On average, applicants have better than a 1 in 3 chance of being successful. Membership to the BHNS costs just £25, to become a member please contact bhns.uk@outlook.com.

Fellowship Update, January, 2022.

The BHNS provided two travel fellowships in 2022 for £500 each. These were awarded to Drs Dami Jagun and Julian Pearce.

Fellowship Update, October, 2019.

We are pleased to announce that the British Hair and Nail Society, a society of the BAD, will once again be providing a trainee travel fellowship of £500 to trainee members interested in attending the EHRS meeting in Sheffield next year from 18-20th June 2019.

The fellowship will be awarded through open competition to all trainee members, with priority being given for those giving oral talks or presenting posters at the meeting. For the application form please email rose.wilmot@nhs.net.

The EHRS have confirmed that their abstract submission deadline will be the 20th March 2020, with applicants being notified of selection by 20th April 2020. Based on this, our deadlines for submission for the travel fellowship will be as follows.

Abstract Submission Deadline: 20 March

Abstract Acceptance Deadline: 20 April

Fellowship Application Deadline: 3 May

Application decision by the BHNS committee: 17 May

This year the BHNS awarded one trainee member, Dr Nicola Salmon, with a £500 travel fellowship to attend the World Congress on Hair Disorders in Barcelona in April. Her account of the event can be found in our 2019 newsletter.

Hair and Hair Transplantation Fellowship In Australia

The Hair Fellowship is available to Medical Practitioners who have completed specialist training in Dermatology and who seek to become expert in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the hair and scalp.

Candidates who have completed the 12 month Hair Fellowship may then apply to then do a 12 month fellowship in hair transplantation and hair restoration surgery.

Fellowship Update, July 2018.

Over the last twelve months we have awarded a total of three travel fellowships to our members, of £750 each. The first was awarded to Dr Yi Ning Chiang so that she could attend the World Hair Congress in Japan in November 2017. She has written about her experience in our blog here. The second was awarded to Dr Christos Tziotzios, who spoke at the EHRS conference in May in Bologna. The final award was given to Dr Dhruvkumar Laheru who will spend 6 months learning from hand surgeons in a specialist tertiary podiatry unit in London and a period abroad in Brussels with prominent Nail specialists. We wish him all the best.

Fellowship Update, August 2017.

We are pleased to announce another Trainee Travel Fellowship Award has been granted for trainees wishing to attend the European Hair Research Society's conference in Bologna Italy from the 18th-20th May 2018. As with all our Fellowships the grant will be awarded through open competition and is open to all BHNS members (trainees only) based in the UK. Priority will be given to those giving oral presentations or who have posters accepted for this meeting. Please contact rose.wilmot@nhs.net for information about how to apply.

Fellowship Update, June 2017.

We are pleased to announce the availability of a Trainee Travel Fellowship Award to support dermatology trainees wishing to attend the World Congress for Hair Research (WCHR) in Japan from October 31 to November 3. The grant for £750 will be awarded through open competition and is open to all BHNS trainees based in the UK.

Priority will be given to those giving oral presentations or who have posters accepted for this meeting. Please note, brief abstracts to the WCHR need to be submitted by the 14th July.  More information can be found on their website. Application forms should be accompanied by a short CV, and a supporting letter from the trainee`s educational supervisor. Please send applications to rose.wilmot@nhs.net.
